Free and Budget-Friendly Things to Do in Anaheim

If you are looking for a place to go that has a little something for everyone in the family and is also easy on the budget, Anaheim is the place for you. Situated between Los Angeles and San Diego, it’s a central location full of attractions that are either free or very budget friendly to make for a really fun outing or vacation.

Downtown Disney

Anaheim is arguably most famous for Disneyland, but if you want to experience Mickey and the gang without spending the money on tickets for the actual park or California adventure, head over to Downtown Disney instead. There is no fee to get in, and you just need to make a purchase of at least $20 to get 3 hours of free parking, or up to 5 hours with validation from a table-service restaurant or AMC Theatres movie experience.

Angel Stadium Tours

Sports fans of all ages will get a kick out of taking a behind the scenes look at a real major league baseball stadium on the Angel Stadium Tours. You’ll get to sit in the dugout, tour the visiting team’s clubhouse, and take in the stunning views from the broadcast booth—all for a very reasonable price. Admission is only $8 for adults, $6 for children ages 3 – 14, $6 for seniors and military, and free for children under 4. Tours take place on days when the team is on the road and you can conveniently buy tickets in advance on their website.

The Gardens of the Fullerton Arboretum

The Gardens are a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of your daily life. They are open daily from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM and admission is just a suggested $5 donation. You can roam the gardens on your own, or go on one of their guided walking tours. They have a Nature Tour available during weekdays, and a Heritage House Tour that takes groups through their 1894 Eastlake style Victorian house and gardens on weekends from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM. Make sure to have your cameras ready because there are plenty of photo opportunities of the gorgeous landscaping and unique plant life. There is always a fun and educational event going on so check their website to see what’s coming up.

Huntington Beach

Huntington Beach is the closest major coastal access to the city of Anaheim, and there is so much to do there if you’re on a budget—even for free. Walking the pier and going up and down Main Street is fun in and of itself. There are farmers markets and street festivals going on regularly that are all free. They don’t call it “Surf City” for nothing. Bring your surfboard for a day on the waves, or just pack up a picnic for a day at the beach with family. One of the best free activities in Huntington Beach is having a bonfire at one of the firepits. The only thing is they are first come, first serve, so you will probably have to get there very early to snag a spot. But it’s so worth it.
